Meet Eric & Julie Abel

We are excited to introduce you to our friends Eric and Julie who will be helping us oversee our Kids Ministry. Instead of just telling you about them, we asked them to share some of their story, their heart, and their hope for our Kids Ministry.

Hi. We're Eric and Julie!

When our first child Brittany was born we had no idea what we were doing :). While raising our subsequent three kids, Blake, Bryant and Brooke, things came a little easier, but frankly, we never had all the answers. Parenting included times of awesome joy and confidence but also sometimes fear and confusion. Looking back at our own parenting experiences we’ve come to realize that sometimes God allows things to be a little unclear because parenting is more of a faith adventure than a formula. More than simply a horizontal relationship with our kids and much about the vertical relationship we have with God. While the Scripture has loads of parenting commands, wisdom and helps, sometimes God wants us to rely on the Holy Spirit to guide us through in order for us to draw close to Him. That’s why it’s so great to have the support of the church family—together seeking God’s answers for life.

And that’s why we decided to leave our empty-nesters life in Colorado Springs to move to Seattle. Sure, we wanted to be closer to family, but we also sensed God’s calling to serve and support the families at A Seattle Church. We have a passion for community and know the important role church can play in the development of the family. Through our life experience, we think we can be of help in guiding the families of our church. We’re grateful that you’ve accepted us so warmly.

The decision on where to serve became evident on our first day at church as Michaela, who was helping facilitate Kids Ministry, was leaving to serve in Brazil for a year. We were asked to step into the gap and administrate the Sunday morning kids ministry—we gladly accepted. We know the great impact that children’s ministry has had on our own children, and the difference it can make in setting a good spiritual foundation.

“We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord, about his power and his mighty wonders.”
- Psalm 78:4

Wow, do we have a lot of kids at Seattle Church. Last week, close to forty showed up with many newcomers. As the church grows we’re going to need greater structure in order serve more effectively.  We’re not completely sure what that looks like just yet, but the priorities will be in providing families with a safe, enjoyable, growing experience for your children.

On Sunday September 21st, before the Sunday morning service at 9:30, we’re going to have a short meeting to share about the children’s ministry and what to expect in the months to come.

We’ll review of our structure and also solicit you’re input on volunteering, etc. (For parents with children ages 10 and under).  In the meantime, we have some needs in the next several weeks. Please let Julie know if you can volunteer, Sunday the 14th or Sunday the 21st. It would be much appreciated.  Julie can be reached at or (818) 306-0241.

In His Service,

Eric & Julie Abel
