When Jim Carrey came to the podium at the Golden Globe awards, which is one of the biggest award shows for motion pictures and Television in the world, he brought a message through irony and sarcasm, to help bring perspective, not only to the actors and actresses sitting in the Beverly Hilton ballroom, but to those watching at home on television.
He sarcastically said:
'You know, when I go to sleep at night, I'm not just a guy going to sleep. I'm two-time Golden Globe winner Jim Carrey going to get some well-needed shut-eye,' he continued as the audience cracked up.
'When I dream I don't just dream any old dream. I dream about being three-time Golden Globe actor Jim Carrey. Because then I would be enough,' he said, pausing dramatically. 'It would finally be true, and I could stop this terrible search, for what I know ultimately won’t fulfill me.
He continued on...but you should just watch the clip here...and also watch the clip of Ricky Gervais pining about the importance of these awards.
I found it intriguing that there was such a strong plea from Carrey to live for something that matters….something that is bigger then yourself.
